[Masters]Auston Matthews on Ryan Reaves: “He’s been an unreal addition … big hits, just kind of getting the momentum back on our side, & obviously he’s not afraid to chuck them. It’s awesome to see & I imagine there’s going to be a lot more of that throughout the rest of the season”

The man is a snow plow on and off the ice. He clears the way for everyone else to go about whatever it is they should be doing.

That alone makes his a value contract.

If they keep saying things like this, hitting, causing chaos in front, playing greasy, and fighting all season i’m probably gonna need new dick skin from rubbing it raw.

Steven Stamkos doesn’t have a hissy fit and jump Auston if Reaves is in the lineup.

  4. Remember r/hockey and boy wunder fan boys calling the Reaves deal pretty much the worst in the history of the salary cap.

All of those failed “grit” experiments throughout the years and we finally found the guy that not only brings grit and truculence but leads by example on and off the ice.

  5. My guess is Treliving saw the Leafs last year when teams were being physical against us. The Leafs play more scared and slower when they’re scared, makes sense. His talk with Reaves was probably something like, we know you’ll get scored on, we know you’ll take some penalties that’s okay play your game, you’re going to make mistakes, but give our guys space, make their team think twice about touching the puck and our guys. Our boys will do the rest.

Someone mentioned it in another thread, but just the presence of Revo on the team scared the opposition. Teams have had the mentality that they won’t be hit hard when playing the leafs, that’s not the case now.

Sometimes it’s best when someone else takes over a team with fresh eyes. Like Tre said in his first presser when GMs talk they’re always like (and I’m paraphrasing), “ We know how to fix *your* team just add so and so.”

I imagine he knew what direction to go from playing the leafs in the bubble a billion times and generally watching throughout the years

Loved this addition from the moment it was announced. We need that edge that’s been missing. No shot Florida does the shit they did in the playoffs with Reaves breathing down their neck. Tempered expectations but I think he’s going to be a huge factor for the buds this season.

Leafs players and coaches said the same things and had similar praise for players like Simmonds, Clifford, and Bogosian. The amount of people doing a victory lap over a career 4th liner who is absolutely getting his shit kicked in through 2 games when it comes to actual on ice play like possession and scoring chances is insane. You’d think he was the main reason we are 2-0 and not 6 goals from the best goal scorer in the world. It’s inevitably going to be like this all season because goons can do no wrong in this market and then come the playoffs they’ll need to bench him when he can’t keep up with the pace of play. Like we had 4 years of the grit and truculence team building philosophy with Brian Burke in an era a lot more forgiving to that style of play and we had nothing to show for it. It’s crazy people actually think that’s winning hockey.

What I especially like is that you’re seeing other players step up their physicality. I wonder if he’s sparked that.

And still people on here will argue against him being signed. You all will never get it.
