i can see we still do that thing from last year where we start playing with 10 minutes left in the game

And one more thing to add. No need to overreact and throw in the towel lol. Leafs gave up 5 and barely sqeaked by Montreal and just lost 4-1 at home to Chicago….. lots of hockey left my dudes.
If I had to pick a game to represent devils losses over the recent years this one would be it.
The boys saved face with that tremendous fight in the 3rd. The missed call on Mercer was an absolute travesty.. with that momentum we had I’m pretty sure we would have tied it up.
Most disturbing was seeing Timo benched in the 3rd… very wierd.
I want to know what Marino did wrong. And before people ask for Nemec, the kid is concussed so the best we’re gonna get is Colin Miller
So it was way before the come back, but Smith absolutely whiffed a play to let up a goal, Im ready to see what Miller can do.
L Hughes is riding the intro waves well. By next year he is going to be an absolute threat.
Replay of the non call anyone?
It was a valiant effort but at the end of the day it’s still disappointing. The refs weren’t great but at the end of the day the Devils put on a shitter for the first 2 periods.
Maybe the 3rd period effort wakes them up, but it’s up to the team to show up and prove that. We can blame the refs, whoever we wanna scapegoat, once we’ve displayed some fight for a full 60 minutes.
We didn’t loose because of officiating, I think we all know that. You cant sleepwalk 40 minutes and expect to always get away with it. But man that no call trip on Mercer at the end is really hard to swallow as a fan. Absolute bummer. But loved the fight the team showed.
The third was exciting as hell, the power play looks good so far. If the team can come to play on time and cleanup some of our penalties we’ll be fine. Both are fixable and there’s plenty of season ahead.
There is absolutely no need to doom and gloom folks, at least in my opinion:
* That third period really really really showed us exactly what this team can do when they’re on, and that was without any offense from Dawson, Nico, and Lukey. And it was with Timo on the bench.
* Speaking of, I will not give up on Timo yet. I refuse. He’ll figure it out. I know he will. He’s Timo fucking Meier.
* The penalty Palat took for the Nico/RAThew thing was worth it, but wish it didn’t end up in a goal.
* Did those first two periods of play inspire any confidence? No.
* Did all the fucking penalities make me happy? No.
* Did our lack of cohesiveness, pretty abysmal defense, and lack of offense upset me? Hell yeah.
* But we absolutely have to god damn remember, so many of our top guys aren’t producing right now. This team can do so much fucking more. So much fucking more.
* Its game mother fucking three. Let’s keep all our clothes still on.
* I will say, I don’t think the Jack unit/Nico unit PP stuff is working. We need to do something about the personnel. I’m not saying break up Jack, Jesp, and Toff on that PP unit, but I’m saying like something’s gotta give. It’s all nice in theory to have two top units, but like put Nico on that unit, and just have a true second unit of like Holtzy, Dawson, Timo, Palat/Haula or something.
* We also gotta clean up zone exits and minimize the turnovers in our own zone.
* I think Nico with Dawson and Palat works (which I came in hot with in the last PGT) and I would like to see what a Haula Holtz, Timo like can do. We really haven’t seen Timo/Holtz with significant time in the actual regular season and Timo and Holtzy connected for some good goals and some good looks in the pre-season.
* Speaking of my favorite guy, Nico looked way better today than he did the last two games. He still doesn’t look his best, but its a steady incline.
* I’m going to UBS for the game against the Isles, so I’m hoping being on the “road” will give us some new magic.
* (But if we don’t win on Friday, I’m changing my flair. Something’s gotta give.)
* Stop taking motherfucking penalties.
* And please just shoot the puck more.
* And please be prepared for puck drop.
* That trip on Mercy should have been another PP for us, frankly, so yet again ref fuckery fucking with us.
* My theory is that the reason Jack’s line is so killer is actually mostly because of the Jack and Jesp show. Toff is promising but he hasn’t scored yet. Nico and Timo obvi wanna play together, but Nico has far more chemistry with Dawson at the moment because they played together so much last season. So thats why I think Timo and Holtzy work because they’re both technically new guys and you slot Haula/Palat in anywhere. Thats my take, anyway.
TL;DR: the season just fucking started, man! D’s developing, offense is going to come for our guys, we gotta clean up the things we gotta clean up. It’s not a lack of talent its just a lack of discipline and a bunch of fixable mistakes. We absolutely will not have the season that we had last season and having all eyes on us really isn’t fucking helping, but I got faith in our boys, and I think ya’ll should too.

Contrary to my criticism on the bad starts and coaching, I think we’ll finish in first. But we’re not in first right now, and it’s okay and normal to question the coaching.
How else are things supposed to be great if bad things aren’t criticized and questioned?

NJ vs. Everybody
Neither team lost solely because of missed calls, but the missed trip on Mercer in the last minute and missed PI to end the Giants game in back to back nights really hurts.
I think this team drank way too much of its own Kool-aid after the preseason. Let them get humbled early… hopefully Vanecek doesn’t go all head-case on us again

Reminder that Timo didn’t score until game 10 last year and netted 40 for the season. He will come good but wow we need to find the right the balance up front, can’t be relying on Jack and Bratt to make everything happen
Devils have played nine periods of hockey. Only three of the nine have been at an acceptable level. They have three days off to figure out why they are playing terrible hockey 2/3rd of the time.
This team is like a bunch of cocky high school idiots. They open the textbook the morning of the exam and figure they’ll get an A if they try real hard right at the very end. Grow up and be a night in night out professionals. Timo needs to realize we pay him for points (not many) not penalties (too many).
Toffoli is really good at shooting the puck directly into the center of opponent goalies.

McLeod was giving it his all tonight. Hard forecheck, big hits in the O zone, just being an absolute pest. Really liked his game tonight.
There is no good reason why refs in every sport shouldn’t have press conferences/media scrums after games. That being said, boy have we been tough to watch so far. Hopefully we can use the 3rd period to kick start our season and start the next game better

Brutal. It’s only one game but it sucks to both lose and get beaten up. But the Panthers were due and it just makes sense that zebras would be scared of big cats.
I hopw we learned our lessons. Every team is going to come out skating hard and burning energy early against us because our speed scares them. When we win the one on one battles from 6 feet inside our blueline to 6 feet inside the o-zone we are dangerous. Let the plays develop instead of constantly trying to force the plays and our speed catches opponents on their heels.
Love that Ruff had the balls to bench Timo. Hopefully it sends a message and he can figure it out.
This feels like it should be a big learning game for the team. Timo with very little time on ice in the third after taking too many penalties, getting pretty greasy goals after being pushed around for most of the game, etc etc. I expect this game to have been a wake up call.
The refs didn’t call the Mercer trip because they wanted to go home on time.

The team is gonna be fine but I’m still wanting vent just a bit.
Mercer non-call was scripted just to bust our balls. Always fun to watch nhl refs stare down blatant calls.
Why do we always get called the second we show some snarl in a game. We’re like the only team not allowed to escape a call. The other team can always antagonize us. Our nonsense is never allowed.
The team lives on the crowd supporting them to much. When the crowd sours you still have to be strong. You can’t wait until you score and the crowd to get back into it to feel good again. Believe in yourself during the first period when you absolutely suck and turn it around. They act like a offensive team that just can’t comprehend things not going their way. You have to be able to win multiple ways. If there was ever a game that shows how Florida would beat us this was it.
Technically the powerplay was good stat wise. I’ve seen alot of powerplays that are absolutely momentum killing before they break through randomly later. My problem is they’re rolling out powerplays where not one player is set up to take a one timer. One of those power plays was a clinic on how to draw up an idiotic over complicated powerplay. Someone is changing it and tanking it. Just put guys Tiffoli/Holtz/Bratt/Meier on their off wing and shoot the puck. Stop having Dougie have to switch sides to take a one timer. Give Bratt and Hughes on PP1 a break sometimes…
Use the bumper position…look for the wing to wing pass. Stop skating around the point looking for a play. I don’t want Jack Hughes having to set up high everytime. Quick rapid passes and then shoot. They’re should not be a team that just kills our powerplay with our roster construction.
Also, shut the hell up while the PP works. I’ve seen fans help kill it multiple times. I think this is a legit phenomenon bc some of our worst standalone games are at home.
Bratt has shown a bit more bite to his game and Hughes ever so slightly is learning that some contact can be okay and where his limits are. He and Hughes cannot carry a team though when they’re so easily frustrated without a lot of success early in the rush game. Someone like chucky can easily throw them off.
I know people love him and he gets a lot of prais whenever he’s buzzin around but McLeod is not good at anything but his role. This is probably one of the least skilled and patient players in the league. He can gallop north south and give some energy in a playoff style game…but he just doesn’t have it beyond that. Don’t elevate him to any of other line. He shoots like my grandma. Bastian has the slowest mitts out there as well. Mikey’s are just bad and he could be a better player if he just had more relaxed and decisive mitts that worked with his legs.
Luke still is a 20 year old. Won’t always be pretty versus Florida.
Start on time. No more nonsense scripted games. We looked confused as to what we were doing all game. Lindy has to step in and adjust our game faster with a timeout.
The fanbase is whacked out(atleast iam) from all our teams failing to live up to hype. I was worried they would get blanked tonite and almost came back.
Not really worried about Timo but I love that Lindy benched him. Nobody (besides Jack and Nico tbh) is above being benched
Not worried, just frustrated. You would hope to see us come out to the gate better but its clear there will be growing pains.
