The Detroit Red Wings are a hockey team

Day after utter domination feels good.

Seemed like they figured something out defensively after the first period.

  3. The dedication The Hockey Guy has to hockey coverage is something to behold.

A few thoughts from last night:

    1) Maatta looked good for the most part. Petry rebounded after his first awful game, but I think Maatta was still better last night than either of Perry’s games. Holl has also been mostly solid, and until that changes I’d hope the scratched D-man is between Chiarot/Petry. 👻 had a great game and seems like a positive addition.

    2) If you look beyond this year to next year, 6 forwards are locked in, plus Ras and Raymond who will be extended. Early signs seem like Sprong was a great addition, and if it holds up and they can get an extension for him done, we’d have 3 slots left for Veleno, Berggren, Soda, and whoever else looks ready from the rookie pool. Clearly Veleno got the memo that this is his last chance to prove he’s worth a roster spot, both this year and going forward. Early signs seem to support SY’s strategy that players will work harder if they know their roster spot is on the line.

    3) If Reimer can step in and play like that, it gives us a much greater chance at playoff contention. Husso hasn’t been bad but he hasn’t been a bright spot either. A capable backup makes it so much easier to play Husso ~50 games, and maybe gives him a little push to be at his best or risk playing time.

A huge difference so far is how the team has played without the puck. They’re pressuring the almighty hell out of the puck at all times, forechecking hard, and are on top of players without the puck. Seems like the near polar opposite of last year.
There’s plenty of big differences so far but that one has stood out the most to me. They’re far less conservative when the puck is in the opponents hands and it’s already cutting off chances before they form

I like how the team played against Tampa Bay the other night. They continued to battle and did not let up when in previous years, they seemed to fall apart.

I’m interested to see how they will play against Pittsburgh tomorrow night.

    LGRW!

Hopefully Tampa can put the smackdown on buffalo tonight

I wonder how long all these teams will hang onto 3 goalies to block Tampa from getting one. At some point will they cave and offer some assets in a trade? I’d like to see Lyons but maybe we could scoop up an extra pick for him. Tampa can’t afford to fall too far behind.

No matter what we do in these next 15-20 games I’m gonna refrain from any judgement good or bad that’s been my thought process going into this season unlike previous.

Though if we trend towards a positive direction I would like to say I never doubted this strategy from Stevie Y from the day after FA.

Get ride of the oestreles haggs Ernes, suter is the exception here. Load up on NHL players now we have a lot of guys coming in on ELCs. So what you have to overpay the maatas holls even copp slightly Compher. We have more than enough cap space especially in 3 years the Copp deal even chairot if we need cap just move them with a pick attached.

We needed real NHLers in the roster and I’d argue it’s gonna work though it’s still early like I said. I hope our record looks something like 13-7 to start because that’s a record you can build off of into the season

All of the new additions have looked really solid to start besides Petry. 41, 37, 93 and 88 specifically. 57 and 8 are the odd men out right now imo. Both look lost most of the time. Perron has looked like Bert out there falling every shift. Copp was basically invisible first 2 games. He moves to the wing and all of sudden every shift hes noticeable. I said it since we signed him, the guy is a winger and we should do whatever we can to keep him on the wing instead of center.
