I like the shootout that they use in some scrimmages and minor league games where the shooter starts at center ice and the rest of the players line up on the blue line to chase them down.

Slow shootouts like these are boring, incredibly unfair for the goalie and I think unsportsmanlike. I always felt the same when Kane did this years ago but everyone shit on me for that opinion. Either make the players skate with a certain speed or get rid of the shootout, I do realize enforcing the former would be difficult to do.

I really don’t like this technique. It could be the slowness of it or the trickiness of it, but I’m with the other commenters that there’s something about it that just doesn’t sit right.
By moving so slow, the shooter can analyze more openings. The goalie is now more stagnant and is already moving less dynamically which limits their ability to cover quickly. It’s weird that the best way to cover this is for Markström to keep his hands moving in the air all over the place.
If the shooter comes in fast, the goalie can see the path and protect. His body already moving to cover given the path the shooter is taking.
This is a very difficult shot to defend and I would like to see more shooters do this so we can get rid of this.

I hate how the penelty shot has been pimped. I’d be happy if they did away with it all together. At the least put a clock on how long the shooter can take. Five seconds sounds fair.

I need to confirm the stats on this, but I believe that he’s got a 1.000 shooting percentage doing this. Pretty sure I’ve watched every regular season Caps shootout since he started, can’t recall him missing.
