General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek.
Centrepiece in the return is [Mark Friedman](https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=138980) – a 5’11”, 185lb 27-year old RHD drafted in the 3rd round in 2014. He went to Bowling Green University for 3 years (shout out to Kevin Bieksa’s alma mater) before signing with the Flyers in 2017.
He bounced back and forth between the AHL/NHL, getting a few cups of coffee with the big club over the next 4 seasons before being put on waivers and claimed by Pittsburgh in 2021.
He has 65pg in the NHL with 4 goals and 8 assists. Fun Fact: his birthday is Christmas day.

Looks like the Penguins end up with Rathbone anyway after all. It’s too bad it wasn’t as a part of a trade for Marino, and that Rathbone’s stock has only gone down since
GangreneMachine
Rathbone is not likely to amount to much. Not defensively sound enough at the NHL level.
If Friedman can be a decent #6 this is a W imo. You can never have enough capable defencemen.
Especially if it keeps Juulsen out of the lineup. That goal against McDavid was embarrassing…unpressured turnover in his own end and then does the splits while losing his check
NerdPunch
Pretty inconsequential move, but probably gives both Rathbone and Friedman a better chance to get some NHL games this season.

These guys are buuuuuuuums

Friedman should be an upgrade on Juulsen for the short term. Rathbone gets a fresh start. The other two are AHL forwards, that each team is maybe hoping can do better in a different organization. Not much there. I’m not sure why this wasn’t simply Friedman for Rathbone, who knows.

JFresh card of Friedman, ~~apparently he’s another Tyler Minors because he takes too many penalties lmao~~
Too bad Rathbone didn’t work out best of luck to him. Don’t know enough about Plasek or Glover aside from position and height/weight to have an opinion.
The acquisition of Friedman (RHD) suggests to me that Juulsen has ran out of rope and Tocchet wants another option plus he is keeping to his word as being a ‘righty, lefty d pair guy’.

We traded Wrathbone for one of the best NHL insider and a 1on1 basketball specialist.

I wanted rathbone to be good here. But if he’s given a chance somewhere else. Then I’m happy.

I hope rathbone gets a shot and kills it, hopefully it ends up a good trade for both teams.

It’s fitting that tradesmen in training are called apprentices.

Someone tell me how to feel.
Who????
Is this good or bad? Or only really affects the Abby Canucks?
BANGGGG
Depth things
What does this mean
We are Pittsburgh Penguins!
Vancouver Penguins lol. GoCanucksGo!
Friedman is probably better than Juulsen but that’s about it. Plasek and Glover cancel out as farm forwards.
Feels like Rathbone needed a new start and that he was never going to get a legitimate shot here. I liked him in his few Canucks appearances but alas.
Sucks that Rathbone never really worked out here. I really thought we had another stud defenseman at one point. Good luck to him in Pittsburgh.
FRIEDGE!
I wish somebody loved me as much as Allvin loved Penguins players

A 4th pair RHD and a probably a AHL centre
Depth trade, and giving Rathbone a new start. I’ll take it and good for him going forward!
Rathbone probably was requesting a trade so this was to make him happy, plus add RD depth. This is fine.
As long as the Vancouver Penguins are better than the Vancouver Bruins I’m 100% ok with this.
Jesus fucking christ stop with all the Pittsburgh moves
Who and who???
Friedman was former Canucks GM Brian Burke’s [most famous](https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2021/02/24/hockey-twitter-has-a-field-day-after-elliotte-friedman-reports-pit-claims-friedman/) waiver claim.
