  1. One of those games where the third pass to really open up a scoring opportunity just wont settle on the stick. Everything got blocked, everything got deflected.

    Philly doesn’t have a single “scary” player but to me they just looked like a team that was really well coached. They always had a guy where he needed to be to snuff out any sort of scoring opportunity.

    Also Myers, holy fuck man. Its just comical at this point with the consistent brain dead plays. I wouldn’t even be THAT upset if he actually used his size and caused some destruction but hes so flat all the time.

  2. If there was ever a trap game this was it. Coming off emotional 2 gamer vs EDM, had to fly out for a road game and this was Philly’s home opener? So they had to sit through the whole ceremony etc.

    Not our best effort tonight lads. We still have to be positive after two big wins against Edmonton. The only tongue lashing I’ll dish out tonight is for Myers. He should be stapled to our bottom pair this season barring injuries. The man has lost a step and does not belong in a top 4 role on our team or any team. Hopefully we can turn it around against Tampa on Thursday.

    Time to play one of the LHD on the off side and trust Hirose to play meaningful minutes.

  5. Guys who played well:

    * JT Miller
    * Quinn Hughes
    * Conor Garland
    * Dakota Joshua
    * Thatcher Demko

    … That’s pretty much it. Hronek was fine but wasn’t great.

    Neither Myers nor Juulsen are NHL caliber defensemen. Don’t even attempt to try to change my mind, you will fail miserably. This is an objective fact, not an opinion. Play Hirose and McWard instead. Put Cole or Soucey on their off side.

    Well the PK was perfect and demko was outstanding. If those things stay improved over last season this season will be much better.

    That said, despite my euphoria last week this team is till a wild card team if everything breaks right

    One more year of myers and I hope it’s the end of that era

    Ah crap, ok let’s dissolve the parade planning committee.

  10. Hope next game we start Myers in the ice so we can immediately get caved in and give up a goal for the third consecutive game.

    Who needs to start strong with possession having Petey and Hughes on the ice when you can start your 4th line and Myers.

  11. That game took all the wind out of my sails. Seems a lot like last year. Too many forwards with zero offensive skills. Too many penalties. And only 4 nhl defencemen.

    Called in the post-game thread of the second Oilers win that this was a deadly trap game. Boy am I frustrated that I was right. Having said that though, the sky isn’t falling. Onto the next!

  13. Captain_JT_Miller

    I am done with Myers, at this point he is a detriment. The guy wasn’t even playing the system he was floating around doing whatever the fuck he wanted. And what he wanted to do was lose. Wolanin, McWard, Hirose are all safer options.

    Also that shot that hit Petey, he wasn’t even hurt, it was disgust that he had to play with Myers.

  14. I think, after reflecting on it a bit, that the single thing that bothers me most is what a complete waste of an absolutely legendary Demko game that was.

  15. SpectreFire

    Doesn’t help that Tocchet is a coach known for suppressing offense on his teams.

    Look at Keller’s production during and after Tocchet.

  16. SkidmarkDave

    Didn’t see much of Miller today. Guy lives in Pennsylvania and couldn’t lead the charge tonight. Come on

  17. SnooConfections8768

    Iam starting to notice that Bouvillier is a passenger.

    Great effort by Demko.

    Shitty officiating. That was a goal.

    Too many shots missed the net or were blocked.

    Too many cross ice passes at the blue line intercepted.

    Good effort by most of the Canucks.

    Myers needs to earn his fuckin’ ice time.

  18. smcfarlane

    It’s like Myers has completely given up. Epic disaster.

    I really feel if Juulsen had just challenged Staal and not jumped him it would’ve been a canucks PP.

    Plus, that second Myers minor was such a momentum killer as well.

    You just have to bench one of, or both of them.
    It sounds dramatic, but the lack of effort and discipline just has to be nipped in the bud immediately. Ice Hirose and Friedman, let Juulsen/Myers sit for a game.

    After a strong and likely emotion-filled effort against the Oilers to start the season I think the Canucks were in a let-down spot with todays game.

    Hopefully everyone can chill out with the panic button and let the team right the ship in the next game.

  21. Of course, the only game I miss on my ticket is this one.

  22. CaptainIndoCanadian

    Get Myers and Juulsen off my fucking team. The boys came out flat sure but the boneheaded mistakes is what did them in more than anything. Even when Myers isn’t making “mistakes” he’s never making the “right” play. It’s always a fucking chore.

    Send him to the minors, bury that 1 mill for the year, sign Bear once he’s healthy, play Hughes with Cole on his right side, Soucy with Hronek, and run Hirose with Friedman until Bear is here. FFS. Sick and tired of watching this guy.

  23. Broad_Nebula_9736

    Other than the shit game, there were a few guys I really liked tonight.

    First, Demko of course. Dude was a stud. He’s a top goalie in the league for sure.

    Hughes and Hronek played well in my opinion. Both made some bad passes that got intercepted, but overall, I liked their decision making and puck handling. I was confident when they had the puck, which was rare amongst defencemen today.

    Lafferty was a stud. Really like his play. Hope he continues the good work.

    The rest, meh. Petey and Miller weren’t terrible, but neither contributed anything on the scorecard.

    Overall, hope the boys learn from this and move onto the next game.
