“The Colorado Avalanche beat the Seattle Kraken, 4-1, on the road Tuesday night at Climate Pledge Arena. Here are three takeaways from the victory.

    **Playoff retaliation**

Logan O’Connor picked a fight with Kraken forward Jordan Eberle less than two minutes into regulation. No surprise. It was Eberle, in Game 6 of the playoffs, who fractured Andrew Cogliano’s neck in two places with a dangerous hit along the boards. The Seattle crowd also booed Cale Makar every time he touched the puck after his one-game playoff suspension for interference against Jared McCann.

Sure feels like a budding rivalry. The Kraken lacks NHL history of more traditional rivals, in only their third season of existence, but these teams have reasons not to like each other. The fan bases are on board. I expect some charged-up matchups to come all season between the Avalanche and Kraken.”

The Avs and Kraken rivalry is certainly underway, and I think it might be something entirely new to the NHL. Both teams are highly-skilled new-era speed and finesse teams. Neither team is particularly physical until the stakes are higher. It makes for some very fast and fun hockey, and I don’t feel a particular hatred for them like I did with the Red Wings.

Booing Makar is so cute. I can’t wait to see the Makar 5v1 end-to-end unassisted goal with a droning boo of Kraken fans in the background. The collective disappointment and sadness will be heard in the painful fade out of the crowd…

    BOO000O0oooawfuck!

Music to my ears. Can’t. Fuckin. Wait.

Rivalry or no, I don’t actually care. I’m glad Eberle got his. I’m sad Borgen didn’t. More than anything, I’m pissed off we played down to their level. We can and should have played way better. They had far more control of the game. We took this one because a couple of our players show up every game without fail. Georgiev, Lehky, Sammy G and LOC earned this W.

Our passes were to space, not to players, and our players weren’t where they were supposed to be. We turned the puck over time and again for stupid reasons. I want to believe that Chu Chu’s back to cup form, but his speed wasn’t there last night. That’s why he didn’t work well on the line with Nate. He couldn’t get to the passes sent his way. Bo is out there playing with all kinds of attitude, but how many times did we lose the damn zone because he wasn’t there to receive a pass coming down the boards at the point? We have to run 4 lines if we want the cup. The first line is great but can’t do everything. Second line was forechecking well, but makes a bunch of silly mistakes. Third line doesn’t seem to click just yet. The fourth line is out there making me proud though. Im not worried about our middle six figuring it out eventually, but I don’t want to lose games while they’re getting it together.
