Top 6 showing they can consistently put up multiple goals per night. This team gets any contribution from the bottom 6 and they’d look scary. Really hope Sully and Dubas are true to the philosophy of keeping the bottom 6 rosters spots competitive.

  2. StarHockeyProd

That hurt but not the end of the world. At least Karlsson played great.

  3. manomount

Take the 2nd period off, you lose the game.

Still, absolutely amazing chemistry and magic of Karllson with our top guys is very encouraging.

  4. Povilitus

Ok I know we lost but god damn I love the Erik Karlsson Experience^TM

  5. chancsc11

They showed heart at the end I’ll give them that. A couple pucks bouncing different ways and this was a different game.

Absolutely by no means their best, PP needed to show up, but Jarry looked strong and these guys will find their rhythm together.

    Karlsson looked like a beast.

  6. AchtungKessel

Bad 2nd period and Husso made some timely saves. I hope the bottom six and 3rd D pair get some alterations made.

  7. The_hipster_batman

“People need to layoff Jarry” he fucking sucks

  8. kimjongillestt

Fuck it, it was still a fun game though congrats EK

  9. New-Actuary-6731

Glad EK got a goal. Refs can suck a fat one. Pens looked like they got a burst of give-a-fuck in the third, which was cool, but it would’ve been nice to see them get that and maintain it throughout. It’s like Geno scored and everyone packed it up for a bit.

There were times when the Penguins looked absolutely deadly and still could not figure out how to get the puck in the net. That was very frustrating.

Glad the boys fought back in the third. That second period gave me flashbacks to last year, though.

No bounce over Geno’s stick, Rakell actually buries 1, and fewer missed calls, and we’re probably in OT rn.

    GG

  11. Euphoric__Dot

Bottom 6 are an embarrassment, don’t score and soft, Rakell needs to wake up as well

  12. Not_A_Paid_Actor

Detroit fans were the most trashy of any Pens game I’ve gone to (including Flyers, Rangers, and Capitals games).

I can see it’s encouraged by the organization though with that song/airhorn.

  13. Ecruteak-vagrant

The top six/stars are basically scoring 3 goals a game. Those guys are bringing it. The bottom six? Absolute loser shit from them. After four games with no goals from them you can start questioning effort. That just doesn’t happen if a genuine effort is put in by those units. Puustinen and Zohorna should slot in just to see what happens. Can’t be worse than watching Carter or Harkins have an on ice abortion damn near every shift. Fire Canada? Old tired. Boo’ing those two dudes along with Eller? Current and much needed.

  14. tinygaynarcissist

I repeat: the game should’ve ended in a draw with Crosby and Karlsson kissing tenderly at center ice.

  15. starlightequilibrium

Harkins is giving me Mcginn vibes of last year. He’s not sandpapery enough to really shine in that role and he’s not skilled offensively enough to shine there either. He cost us absolutely nothing so it may it may be time to bring in Zohorna. You know… the guy who definitely earned a roster spot too.

  16. dino_miami

    Couple takeaways for me:

Love the tenacity from Crosby & Malkin

It’s an absolute pleasure watching Erik Karlsson play hockey. What a superstar.

  17. New-Actuary-6731

Dylan Larkin’s face looks like he is avoiding paying his child support.

  18. robertobondar

Pens were absolutely horrendous starting with that power play in the first and all throughout the second period. Time to rotate in some different options on defence and I’d wave Harkins to give us an opportunity to switch up a forward.

  19. BogotaLineman

What does the bottom 6 offer to the team? I know it’s not realistic to have an HBK line quality 3rd line long term but come on, do SOMETHING. If you’re not going to contribute offensively you better bring fire and hustle.

4th line I know not to expect much from but can ya at least throw in some grit, athleticism, or work rate?

  20. tmille12x2

I didn’t get to watch this game but I watched the first 3. I keep saying complaints about the bottom 6. I know they haven’t scored but I thought in general they looked pretty good and much better than our bottom 6 last year.

  21. Meanie_Cream_Cake

I don’t take too much out of these early season games but the Eastern Conference will be heller tough this year. So many playoff potential teams.

  22. seataccrunch

Wish Geno held that puck in the zone

Second period trash, but good fight in the 3rd.

  23. Ruhwedel should only play when there’s an injury and he has to fill in. He’s not good enough to be an everyday player .

  24. JKray5_Reddit

I know we still probably would’ve lost, but that first empty net goal was offsides

  25. sextoymagic

I need so answers. I’m watching in bars and can’t hear the game.

So I thought I saw a clear high skill on the 3rd Detroit goal. Was it? Did the coaches just not challenge a goal that shouldn’t have counted?

The 2nd Detroit goal was it ruh that bumped Jarry or the Detroit player?

The empty net goal was offsides for sure. I feel like I saw us lose a game we shouldn’t have. Also Ruh isn’t a top 6 D. He needs to be our 7th.

  26. Cheeks_Klapanen

    * Hate to pin it on one guy, but if Ruhwedel doesn’t spot them 3 goals, it’s a way different game. I’m pretty confident he won’t do that very often.

    * Last game I said the points would come for EK. They did.

    * The bottom 6 is a nightmare, and watching them makes me want to taste test a 9mm. Jeff Carter is legitimately playing the best hockey if anyone in that group, and holy shit is that a bad sign. Bring up Zohorna and Nylander. Have Harkins, DOC, and Nieto draw straws to see who gets scratched, and whoever it ends up being will have earned it.

  27. pingping7

Same ol’ Sullivan led clown show of inability to defend

  28. Ruhwedel had a bad game.

Tired of watching this team kill its own powerplays.

Tired of watching Geno sabotage stuff and get away with it because he makes noise offensively. He earned that double minor like the bonehead that he is. Whatever point he was trying to make, he has to have NOT FORFEITING THE POWERPLAY in his head as well. But I frankly don’t think he’s capable of that level of thought. That one shift late in the game where he was too tired to skate onside but not too tired to go directly to the bench? Selfish. Awful.

Getting pucks on net is obviously vital, but this team is just throwing too many practically zero xG pucks on net from up high. Don’t take a low-expectation shot if the most likely outcome is just the puck bouncing to a defender and getting taken out of the offensive zone, ffs.

  29. PavilionParty

I have never been a Chad Ruhwedel fan and this game did not help his case.

  30. AnonPlzzzzzz

Still waiting to see this new and improved bottom 6 get a point…

  31. Electrical-Program86

0 points from the bottom 6 again. 1 point and 0 goals through 4 games.

    Unbelievable.

  32. Fizzyliftingdranks

It’s not in their nature but if I’m in that top 6 or top 2 pairs I’m either questioning effort or starting a fist fight in the room
