“The Connor Bedard hype train makes its first stop Thursday at Ball Arena.

Get ready for a wave of No. 98 Chicago Blackhawks jerseys in attendance for the Colorado Avalanche home opener. Bedard — the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NHL draft — is already being celebrated as the NHL’s next generational star center.

Nathan MacKinnon, [in a May ESPN profile on Bedard](https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/37475395/connor-bedard-no-1-pick-nhl-draft-next-hockey-superstar), said that his “release is one of the best in the world now … at 17.”

    Talk about pressure.

So far, through his first four NHL games, Bedard is living up to the hype. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound forward has already logged one goal and two assists. Bedard gets swarmed by large groups of reporters in almost every city he’s visited. He’s handled the intense spotlight with uncommon grace for someone not old enough to drink a legal beer.”

Holy shit, everytime I look somewhere they’re talking about Bedard. Give the kid time to find his spot ffs

When was the last time a player his size was a Hart-level player? Patrick Kane, maybe? The hype train has Bedard greater than Kane, more like McDavid level. Curious to see what his game looks like if he reaches his potential.

I suppose it’s very possible he grows more. He’s still just a kid.

Show the rook what’s fucking up Avs. Dumb fucking hype train. Good luck kid

  5. I’m getting pretty tired of hearing about every little thing he does but I honestly feel kind of bad for him. That’s just so much attention and pressure for a guy who’s 18 and only 4 games in. Let the man get settled a bit.

It’s true that a lot of Chicago fans live in Colorado. Because none of them want to live in Chicago and I don’t blame them

Why is the NHL so woefully incompetent at marketing stars?

Bedard comes into the league and somehow every game, word spoken, play, goal, hit, pass, chiclet spit has to do with Bedard. He does like 5 in game interviews a game jfc. Is anyone enjoying this?

Poor kid has to be having a mental health crisis with all this pressure. Kid didn’t have a Matthews 4 goal opener and there’s already idiots calling him a bust.

Can’t wait to hear what he says after a 7-2 loss

The media has made me want this kid to crash and burn

I am so over hearing about Bedard. They over hyped the guy.

Great player, wish him well, but just stfu about him unless he does something worth mentioning in game.

It’s truly a shame that he’s on the terrible Blackhawks

I’m sure he’s good, but this season won’t be great for him

    Best of luck little guy

    Seems like a nice kid.

Media in this country is general sick. Build someone up to tear them down. Or create controversy and hype that someone can never shake or live up to.

I hope he goes on to have a nice career, and that the media moves on to something else.

The kid’s amazing. Regardless of what team he’s on….if you enjoy hockey (I think most do here?), you’re enjoying watching his ride into the NHL

  14. forgodandglory1

Everyone is lined up with an opinion and we’ve barely seen him play in the NHL. Really cool to see a potential future super star but agree they need to lay off a bit. Though to be fair NHL marketing hasn’t been great so maybe they are trying to grow the game and hope the kid can just take it.

On a side note why is the game so late. 8:30 is ridiculous. Some people gotta work the next day. I can see 8 while they on the west coast. Home should be 5:30-6pm

  16. CitizenNaab

Nate and Cale and Rantanen and Toews are the star attractions for me

  17. OhmyGhaul

Actually the star of the Avalanche home opener is in fact *the Avalanche*

Have any other players been hyped as much as Bedard? I feel like I don’t remember this kind of crazy media attention, but maybe I just wasn’t paying close attention.
