Flames lose 3-1 to the Blue Jackets
Second half of a back to back, the fourth of a five game road trip and the second loss to a backup goalie.
Let’s hope for a strong finish in Detroit.

So far this team looks identical to last years except Markstrom looks much more stable. Might be a long season ahead if our “top guys” can’t produce or score in big moments.
If there is one thing consistent about the Flames, it is that they are inconsistent.
3 takeaways:
– Markström is starting strong. I’m glad to see he is performing and seems to be enjoying it.
– Kadri had some fire tonight. Hopefully, he can carry that into Sunday.
– First B2B game and we looked slow, excluding the 4th line, and out of place. We can work on that at least. The effort from the top line was good in my eyes.
Disappointing. Especially not happy with Andersson, he’s supposed to be a leader-by-example. Hopefully he gets suspended and learns to temper his emotions.
I’m surprised of one common thing people are saying, which is that the team doesn’t get high danger chances. Even in this game Flames had 10 HD chances, Blue Jackets had 5. The only game so far in this season where Flames have had less HD chances than the opponent was against the Jets.
For example, high offensive minded team like the Devils had 10 HD chances last night against the Islanders. Edmonton had 6 when they pounded the Preds 6-1. We can all agree that the team lacks finishers, but they do put themselves in a better position to score quality wise than last season
I’m going to say this:
I’m fkn proud of our sub and the classy way Flames fans are acknowledging that Ras pulled a bone-headed move.
Now, about the team, nice to see Kadri playing a little better. It almost looked like he cares. Huberdeau continues to struggle and shows infrequent glimpses of his capabilities. What is going on there? Coronato is shaping up to be a huge asset for the Flames. I hope we can foster a long term relationship with him.
My take on the that’s play at the end of the game was he just really didn’t want to have to travel to Detroit!
Honestly, and I generally try to be quite positive. This may be the most boring team in the NHL right now. That felt like game 50 not game 5. But If they were 5-0 I’d feel the same way.
If this is still what we’re watching in Game 30 I say blow it up as much as possible. Trade Lindholm, Tanev, Zadorov and Hanifin for futures. Then you keep offloading expiring deals as you go to find a new mix. This is an uninspired mix right now, and it would be insane to double down.
Flames have 8 playoff wins in the past 8 years, and without some major changes, they’re trending the same direction for the next 8.
Ras making that hit with 3 seconds left was super dumb, made dumber with our team’s defensive depth issues.
I do think we’re starting to look better overall though. Way more quality shots than last years “fling it at the net” method.
Sometimes you play well enough to win, and lose.
Sometimes you play poorly enough to lose, and win.
But most often, you get what you play for. Aside from a big push in the last 6 minutes, the boys didn’t play with enough urgency throughout most of the game.
The hockey sub is having an absolute meltdown as is tradition. It was not a good hit, but let’s not treat this like a bertuzzi incident. He’ll be suspended, hope laine is alright, hope we don’t see it again. Now that this is done, I hope this sends a message to the rest of the team that we need some more fire in their game. Other than the 4th line we’re just not intense enough, and Andersson may be trying to send a message, not unlike chucky after the puck flip. We’ll see how they respond
