The Capitals are imploding this season, and I’m sure I’m going to take some flack for this but some guys just keep up with the younger, faster, and more agile players. 1-3-0 is one of the worst starts I’ve seen WAS have. Oshie, Backstrom, and Karlson just don’t have what they used to have. I can understand holding into Ovi because the roof is coming off the building in 72 more goals, but GM has to start making some decisions and letting the older guys go. Caps won’t make the playoffs at this rate, much less a run for the Stanley Cup. Every season for as long as I can remember the cap space is incredibly small for WAS because they spend it all on resigning novelty rather than young aspiring players. Their lines are inconsistent and it’s usually the forwards who are pressured to put pucks in the net when all lines should be contributing. The defense is usually subpar, and there’s no telling where that’s coming from because we’ve had quality d men come in to help out. Bottom line is once Ovi hits Gretzky’s record or even before then, Backstrom, Karlson, and Oshie have to be traded or move on to give the Caps the cap space they need to acquire the players that will reignite the franchise. Right now it’s like watching a hockey team on autopilot, and the Caps are better than that
