  1. He's gotta be…Perhaps JT and Malkin have a tie. He is so underrated. Go look at his goals per game pace on quant hockey and compare him to the current active players. He has passed many impressive players, past and present over less amount of games played. The media will glorify so many others over JT, but the proof is in the goal and point totals. Phenomenal player still. Generational talent.

  2. Tavares was an overpay from the get go. There were other teams interested in signing him as a UFA, so he wasn't coming to Toronto as a bargain. He took less money than was offered by San Jose (7 x 12M) & Lamoriello (8 x 11M) to sign with Toronto. He's probably 9.5M to 10M in a US market with zero or low state income tax, but in Toronto where the provincial income tax rate is 13% for high income individuals, 11M is roughly the same money in after-tax dollars, which most fail to mention. No evidence he's slowing down as of yet & he's off to a good start in year 6, still winning face-offs, hard to knock off the puck, still going to the dirty areas net-front & is a 33 year old super fit guy who's still trying to get better. A pro's pro.
