Should the Washington Capitals be concerned about Alex Ovechkin’s lack of production?



In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about should we be concerned about the lack of production from Alex Ovechkin so far this season? He was held to zero shots on goal the last two games. Is there an underlying injury, is he playing with the wrong linemates or is he just getting old? I don’t believe any of those are true. Historically he always takes a while to get going. Later Dan talks about the Kuzy crawl and how its irritates many NHL goalies that have face and the fact that they can do little to stop it. In the last segment Dan breaks down the Caps loss to the Sens and what needs to change before they take on the Montreal Canadians

    Good take on OV, Dan….the Caps are in a “funk” right now, and it’s hard to fault a guy for lack of production when everyone is struggling. I think he and the whole team will come out of the fog soon.

    Ovie had a shot every single game last year. He would have scored th3 last game if that idiot who hit the post had passed to ovie. If ovie doesn’t get passes he won’t get goals or shots.

    We'll see with Ovie. I hope he gets really hot. He is a stud physically, which works well for him. However, this being said, with some older players, sometimes the decline is sudden and extreme. And while Wayne was great over his career, he wasn't as good in his mid 30s.
    As to the Kuzy Crawl, I think it's very creative and he deserves kudos for doing this and making it effective. As to the the goalie who uttered a 4 letter word, tough cookies. Maybe the goalie needs to be able to focus better. Kuzy's messing with their rhythm. Which is a good competitive move.

    I know it’s way too early to panic but if this slow start is really who we are, could you see additional prospects from Hershey join the club?

    Ovechkin was only 27 during that season he went 4 goalless. Big difference between that and 38.

    I was calling for a rebuild for this team as early as 2019 (for the record I meant a rebuild around Ovi/Carlson). It's now too late before Ovechkin retires. He needs a better team around him. He can't create his own shot anymore. He turns over the puck too easily. But, the failure of ownership/management to embrace it has ruined the opportunity.

    I can't figure out how they couldn't see 2018 was the very tail end of the window.

    Hard to tell what is the exactly wrong with Ovi. It could be age/health or something is bothering him mentally. I think it's a mental thing. Towards the end of last season, he was sort of playing like this. Now it's continued to this year. He did go off and do a lot of slashing on Barclay Goodrow from NYR out of frustration from this "funk". You can tell he wants to score goals and win, but something is messing with him. I think he can get out of it. With that being said, the whole team is out of sync. Overall, I still believe something can come together at some point for the Caps.

    37 years old and seem lost little step/speed. Not getting many shots in is shooting areas on the ice. I know history brothers in Vanc. drop off score wise. That my take of ?? Caps play.

    They needed to start the rebuild in 2019 to build around ovi and Carlson but they didn’t start it somewhere now when ovi retires
