This was TERRIFYING to watch

This video covers the injury suffered by Vasily Podkolzin of the Vancouver Canucks after a terrible and dirty hit by Colorado’s Keaton Middleton. Podkolzin would end up convulsing on the ice but would later post that he was doing okay.

  1. It is a play that is only done by players who have ZERO respect too other players.
As long as league's officials allow these goon style actions to take place, it will continue.

  2. It's careless but somehow has become cool to some players. First, hits to the head, then hanging out a knee, now this slam thing. Some people will say, meh..suck it up. The hit is made, just play hockey. Instead the guy wants to make a statement? League should treat this for what it is. What is it though? An accident or very careless? Maybe both. You obviously want to finish your check, but what do you do? Podkolzin isn't a small weak player. So it takes this to negate him. Hopefully they figure it out. Or.."that's hockey " which we'll have to assume.

  3. The initial hit was fine but when a guy is off his feet he has little weight behind him.Kinda like hitting a guy when he's airborne and your feet are still planted. Dude in the air is going to go flyin'. Extremely vulnerable

  4. Yeah i hope Podkolzin is fine. Quality of that video is pretty bad. To my eye the initial hit was fine but Podkolzins skates slipped and he lost hes footing. And in the follow up it seemed more like Middleton and Podkolzin got entangled or maybe they hold each other somehow. Like if you are falling and you try to grab something. It didn't look like Middleton used much force to slam Podkolzin into the ice. At least not even close to the force that Matheson used against petterson. He was more like following him when he was falling. So i'm not sure how much intention there was but yeah over all it didn't look nice. Especially the angle of how he landed. And like i said the quality of the video is pretty awful.

  5. First, the puck was gone fom the play, so it was going to be interference no matter what. Then the slough foot taking Pods feet out, making him completely helpless and susceptible to the bodyslam takedown leaving his head, neck, and should at risk. Pods made them look like fools the previous night with the solo dash for the OT winner. Middleton is a 6th round no talent pylon who was likely frustrated and trying to make a name for himself. He will probably never play another game in the NHL. Give him 10-games for a dangerous play, intent to injure the Canuck's best player. This could have been career ending for Pods. It still could lead to significant time lost due to possible brain injury.

  6. That’s a downright dirty hit to the board with a body slam he should’ve got a fine for that dirty hit on Vasily podkulzin

  7. My Uncle was billting Aaron Moser of the Nanaimo Clippers Junior A team when he went into the boards and was paralized form the neck down. He was at all our family dinners it was terribly sad those 17-21 year olds were my heroes when I was young

  8. I have actually thrown a player down like this myself.
The only difference was I didn't throw a check, he actually had his arm around my neck from behind.
Since he was shorter than me, I straightened up and he kept hanging on. He swung around to my front while still hanging on to me and I slammed him backwards into the ice.
Some of my teammates didn't actually appreciate what I did but in my defence, he went for my neck.

  9. Deserves a two minute penalty for tripping, thus it's not a clean hit.

As for the Matheson hit, that wasn't worthy of a suspension as far as I'm concerned. Should have been a two minutes roughing call as an absolute maximum and I don't even think that would have been completely fair. Matheson is finishing his check and playing hockey, he is even looking in the direction of the play not paying attention to Pettersson.
