The New Jersey Devils lost their first game in regulation to the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-3. Timo Meier and Nico Hischier once again both had disappointing outings, and it seems as though the Devils don’t have good chemistry with one another. While they improved in period three, they once again got off to a very slow start. Dawson Mercer was tripped late in the game, yet the referees missed the call. That could’ve helped the Devils potentially tie the game.

Time to end the Brandan Smith experiment.
Devils need to shoot the puck more and stop making pretty plays. Our top lines have great shooting and that’s something that needs to be taken care of. Yes they can pass fast but the puck needs to go in the net

everyone including me were excited when we get Meier but I am not delusional like overyone and saw that Meier trade was a mistake 5 games into Meier trade and been calling ever since do not sign him. Yes, the trade was a mistake that cost us a lot of prospects but that was a short term mistake. Now, by signing him to such a long and expensive contract Devils have made a second even bigger mistake that is going to hurt them dearly. And again I say, if Meier do not produce in the next month he must be traded. For anything. Even 3rd round pick will do for me
Queue the overreactions. Honestly, they haven't been great – that's obvious. They've got some new personnel still trying to gel. NJD just played a very motivated Panthers team looking for win #1, while not showing consistency themselves the two games prior. I wouldn't freak out about them struggling until we're at the 15 game mark. They'll figure it out and I trust Lindy to be able to get the boys going against NYI and MTL coming up. Road games should help them refocus on the task at hand.
I think Lindy will make the change with Taffoli and Timo. In essence recreating that Tuna Nico Dawson line that worked really well. And I think/hope Timo on Jack's line would work better. We'll see. I looked at the standing around the league this morning and I feel a little better it is early. Too early to panic.😅 Nico had 3 hits for what that's worth.

Hischier line also the only one that didn't concede so far. So goes both ways. They need to get their offence going and the others need to get their defence going.
Hischier needs a sniper like Bratt and Hughes needs a power forward like Meier so…
If Hughes could play every shift the devils would never lose
It's not the end of the world to lose to Panthers. They were the BEST team of the playoffs and unlike Devils they have pretty much the exact same lineups.
Chemisty is a hard subject. In many other sports star players can carry game for you, but in hockey, even if you had a line of McD+Draisaitl+J.Huges you can still end up banging your head against a wall and lose.
It’s funny some others feel the same way about Meier’s number……I said it first game he needs to go back to 96 he doesn’t have the same spunk lol
I really don't think Devils are as good or bad as they might seem. I was probably only person seeing them when at lowest point as mostly watching for other teams :). Also Erika along with them I can listen to unlike Islanders beyond Butch Goring. Its like a Gong Show without the Gong as would have AJ or others who can't even announce training for them. Botterei or some name it was brutal now its 4th Overall Hickey :). Least is a former player. New Jersey is like all the people played for team or so. Erika has good voice for this but the Animal Print Outfits are always a bonus :). I gave up on team when it was like 3 nothing. I fell asleep during the MOnday Night Cowboys win Despite Dak :). I bet SF wished he was the Browns QB when lost to some no name because Watson or so don't wanna play :). He would be great in the NHL for sure :).
I think we're fine. Although the production has not been where it needs to be and some defensive lapsus are happening, most of the time the Devils are dominating the ice and that's how you win games. It's a long season, let's take our time.
All the comments are good and another great video. Let me throw out another idea. Players are too similar and teams have caught on to Devs plan to play a speed game. They need to create a different line with more grit AND SIZE note that part. I know Timo was brought in to bring grit but I’m talking about a big bruising line. Devs will work their way out of this funk but eventually they need to address the too homogeneous team line up
Honestly broo its time to let VTek go Schmid played Incredible in the Coyote game.. Bobrovsky saved every thing that came his way until the very end.. Vtek just looked shaky as usual.. schmid against the Coyotes… the only questionable goaltending that night was the last goal in regulation and man that was due to the Devils being so sloppy.. if it wasnt for Sengenthaler flipping the puck out last year in OT vs the Hurricanes we might have been talking about the Devils in a different light rn.
