I'm a Tampa fan and want Stamkos to finish his career here but how many times have we seen GMs throw away tons of money to keep someone when they are aging out.
Julien could have evaluated whos ready to step up when Stammer was out of the playoffs and they still won the cup. He used Steven to keep everyone else below the captains pay grade just to absolutely dump him now that he wants to get some money

Stamkos is great in the regular season. Playoffs not so much.

Place Colorado in the Eastern Conference whether it’s the Metro or the Atlantic, they are at best a 3rd seed in either of those 2 divisions. The fans of teams in the Western Conference don’t even notice how their teams have it so easy.
When BriseBois says he needs to gather "more information", it's likely NOT about Stamkos but about the middle-six forwards he signed long-term and how they will work out – or not, and if not, he needs to find a way to jettison those high-priced grinders to make room fo top-of-the-lineup players. If Jeannot scores 50 goals (almost impossible), he would be a bargain Stamkos and the captain would be expendable, but if he struggles again, you need to buy him out or trade him, and one of those options would have an impact on how much Stammer can get signed for.
Keep in mind BB is French-Canadian. Yes, he's lived in the U.S. for over a decade, but there are turns of phrases he might not mean the way English-born folks would understand them.
We cannot feel sorry for Steve as we mortals don't come close to his salary in a lifetime..just saying
