What happened to this player?

Does he need to start spinning again? Or we need some crease crashers

We can’t post this video after everyone of hubbys poor performances. It would be posted 82 times this year

Give him his number back. That is the only reasonable answer at this point. We will see how big a captain Backs is … give it up Backs. /jk

The problem is obvious, too many Swedes not enough Fin(n)ish

  4. ManRocket99

He legit looks like the players who lost their skills to the Monstars from Space jam

I think it’s 100% mental, he was shocked that he got traded and it’s affected his play, he’s bummed that Florida didn’t stick with him…..get over it huby!!

I honestly think it’s combination of mental and line chemistry. He’s a pure distributor not a goal scorer and he can’t seem to find trigger men that mesh with him here. Anthony duclair and Sam benitte were his last devoted line mates in Florida where he lit it up. He’s not playing with anyone here that really matches those 2 or have found the groove with him. He’ll struggle tillhe does

I refuse to believe these guys are the same player.

From what I can see, Huberdeau’s linemates of past have learned to play with him. When he has the puck they just go to the net. Huberdeau passes to where the player should be, not where he is. Our guys never figured that out.

Secondly, I think the contract he signed has opened up teams eyes to his abilities, he gets swarmed by two defenders now almost instantly to getting the puck.

Third, Florida is not a big market, he was pretty much a nobody around Florida. Not the same thing in the Canadian market. Everyone of his mistakes is picked apart and thrown in his face time and time again.

Now that his confidence is shot, playing in a different market, different style of play, and under the scrutiny of us fans twenty for seven it’s not wonder he’s turned into the player he is.

  9. He has no chemistry with anyone unfortunately.

If he ever gets confidence in himself and his teammates, things might click, but for about 90 games there’s been no chemistry, only frustration.

They’ve had 90 games to figure it out. His confidence is shot and he has been a liability. Better to let him sit a few games to see if it lights a fire with the team.

  11. He doesn’t have linemates that he has built chemistry and can trust, and I feel like overall the locker room vibes and atmosphere in Calgary is way different than Florida.

Admittedly I didn’t watch him regularly in Florida, but in those highlights he has enough footspeed to keep separation on backchecking defenders and is good at protecting the puck while he doesn’t seem have those abilities as a Flame. Against Edmonton on Sunday in the 1st Dube fed him a pass off the rush as he was the lead Flame through the neutral zone and it was if he was caught flat footed because Oilers were on him right away and he just hot potatoed it back to Dube who was not expecting a return pass so fast.

For 10 million a season he needs to carry that pass through the neutral zone, gain the blueline, and then distribute the puck through a seam for a line mate to one time it. Huberdeau unfortunately gets checked quicker then he can skate it or distribute it effectively, that’s the difference I see.

Huberdeau was playing with a bunch of goal scorers and playmakers in Florida. The first 3 highlights are of him setting up Vatrano (goal scorer), Hoffman (goal scorer), and Barkov (playmaker). Huberdeau’s main skillset (passing, finesse, awareness) enhances those types of players as well as players that are similar to him (like Barkov he is more of a playmaker). This is what led to him getting a lot of points in Florida, mainly because he would get a lot of assists. I think Huberdeau needs other similar talent or pure goal scoring talent around him to put up big numbers and Calgary has none of that right now. He seems overpaid because he has no help, but if Calgary we’re to acquire another good player that can score then I think Huberdeau’s stats rise to what is expected from a $10.5m player.
