  1. It’s been 3 games under a new head coach. And he’s got 3 years left on his deal (and only 73 goals).

I’ll wait a bit longer before I’m truly worried.

  2. Ovechkin will 100% break Gretzky's record, even if it takes him 5-6 seasons to do so (but it will actually only take 2 or 2.5 seasons). Someone chasing a record and getting as close as Ovechkin has will simply continue playing for as long as it takes to break the record.

  3. Ovi is like 98 % to break the record but like 2 % to win another Rocket. Apart from the three games to start this season all things point to him being able to get easy 30+ goals, maybe even 40. But as for the Rocket, his days of contention are numbered with at least McDavid, Matthews, Pastrnak and Draisaitl being significantly better goal scorers at this stage of their respective careers and players like Rantanen, Robertson, Nylander, Kaprizov to name a few also being favorites over him. I think there's still at least a 35 % chance Ovi will break the record until the 2024-25 season is over assuming he gets to play at least 80 games both seasons.

  4. Its like 3 games into the season. Not exactly a big sample size this year eh?

  5. sad to think that if there was no lockouts and no covid he would be chasing 1000 by now

  6. Well, he isn't getting any younger, which means, he isn't getting any faster, which means, he's actually getting older, which means, he's also getting weaker, which means, he's also getting slower.

All it would take to dash OV's chance at Gretzky right now, is a 3 – 4 month injury, and it's over. He will not be catching Gretzky in his 40s.
