On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we react to a 6-2 loss to Philadelphia that features a lot more of the same issues we’ve seen so far this season: a lifeless start, bad play in the defensive zone, too many shots leading to too many goals and many unanswered questions. We harp on a need for attention to detail, with puck security and getting back to playing the style of play the Wild actually want to play. We look at some alarming statistics, as well as what improvements we can actually expect from the Wild when Matt Boldy and Jared Spurgeon do actually return. We finish by again questioning the decision to lock in so many older vets just as the Wild were in a position to make some impactful changes in the offseason.

It would be straight crazy to say those guys won't help the lineup..That being said, your spot on with the overall problem. The way this team is built??? Falling behind teams (bad ones so far) this team just forgets about defensive responsibility..Kaprizov on the blueline???oh boy!! What does it say about your team when the only time you can hold any control in the zone is when your defensemen both have to continuously cheat in so nobody is ready for return rush? Kirill is coughing up pucks almost every shift!!! I don't know if it is just trying far too hard to get this ship right but he plays 1 on 3 or 4 because the rest of the team won't skate. They spent so much time gliding it was easy for Philly to get control. This team looks lazy, slow, defense sucks because even Brodin is coughing up the puck! Gus, do yourself a favor and go on strike!!! Your whole team is on strike in front of you!!! When it comes to checking you all look like pansies! Addison is so afraid to take a check he will throw the puck away so he won't get checked. Littieri, what the hell was the jersey grab supposed to do except draw a penalty? Is it finally time to bench Merrill, the stump? I have seen peewee players with a higher hockey IQ than you John, OMG!!! Still looks like Wild D Zone looks like this – 🪵 🥅 🪵! Gus is out there with an empty backfield! I completely disagree with Pat Maroon playing 2nd line slot! We need speed on that line and besides that the line that was controlling the puck and zone best was MA-DU-DEW line. I disagree it isn't coaching because there is zero accountability for weak penalties, poor play, coughing up pucks continuously. There is zero ability to control zone entry still and even when they manage to get across center line zero SOG. Suffice it to say you can't get shots on goal from danger spots if you never control the puck. There was a stretch last night you played 20 minutes without a single SOG! THAT'S A HUGE PROBLEM!!!

Seth, you were the lucky one! I could go on a dissertation as they played 10 minutes last night. Looked disinterested and lethargic. When Belpedio outshines all our defense and almost scores 3-4 goals tells you all you need to know. Bobby Brink outplaying all our forwards – they just wanted it more. The only light in the tunnel is other than a few teams, Vegas, Ave’s, Dallas in the west, most are struggling. If they grab the next two, all will be forgotten but this is more than a mirage, it’s a pattern. Better buckle up or it’s going to get away from them quickly. Even Gusty is showing cracks, giving up some marginal goals, but he’s only as good as the play in front of him. This may be coaching and the message may be falling on deaf ears. Get Boldy and 46 and Freddy back, and try a Lambos – he can’t do any worse than Merrill. Being outshot 24-5 with 8:00 minutes left in P2, holy shit….
Merrill needs to be waived to Iowa like right now

Not worried for the season overall but the next two games against the caps and devils I think are losses. These slow starts and poor defending will cost entry to the play-offs down the track unless something changes.
Perhaps Billy can go in that locker room with a truck full of adrenaline to get their very old bodies going. I see seth has bought into the …they're a physical team they can wear them down nonsense…let me ask the geriun we trust crowd…how can a very old, too small, too slow wear them down…bore them to death. In the previous game where the top line had 10 points…everyone said see, you don't know what you're talking about. Well look at them now. I give it 20 games before Billy brings in another old experienced nice guy to double down on this successful formula of average. The owner and Billy should have taken this time to focus on the future and cultivate this talent pool.

Other than a couple of sustained shifts in the offensive zone the Wild looked out of sync and disjointed. There are some signs of chemistry between a couple of players but not all 5 on the ice playing team hockey. Loses will come but they have to bring the locker room chemistry on to the ice. I hope the coaches can bring something legit to help as well.
Well my comments keep getting deleted or something, not sure what's happening…..but yeah, that was UGLY….and Merrill needs to go away, permanently. The whole team sucked though, and it's def not just on him. Aside from the 2 quick goals, the rest of that game was so so soooo UGLY.
I will also say that as a die hard fan since the inaugural season, it's actually refreshing to see such severe issues, only for the fact that it exposes all the bad decisions made by Wild brass. It gives GMBG the chance to truly fix problems instead of band-aid it with a slow average vet in November.
It's 100% on them to fix these holes, and they have 2 seasons to do it. If they do, we will contend for a cup at that point. If not, well…we're in for another decade of mediocrity.

Seth I know you are upset but this is the new normal. We are a mediocre team who might beat a few good teams, and might lose to some bad teams. Example – look back at our record so far. We can't expect Gus to win every game for us. The entire team is asleep for the first half of every game so far. Kirill has fanned on or missed the net nearly every opportunity he has had a tap in goal. He is non-existent out there. The D-core are terrible besides the new guys out there. We don't win races to loose pucks, get enough shots, make good decisions in the offensive zone, etc. We will be luck to be a .500 club at the end of the season, and a miracle if we make the playoffs.
Among all the other things…somehow Merrill and Addison were on a PK together….both ended up behind the net and bam…goal… ridiculous
