Cooley IS Better than Slafkovsky Right Now BUT…

Montreal Canadiens Juraj Slafkovsky isn’t keeping up to Coyotes Logan Cooley right now but that can change.

  1. Slafkovský is the youngest olympic mvp ever for a reason. If anyone doubts him, watch some games where he played for Slovakia, games where he was confident. Besides being productive, when he had the puck there was no hope for the other team to take it from him. I don't even remember if he lost the puck once. Sure i expected more from him in the NHL, yes i'm a bit disapointed but there's no doubt he's going to be a star when he gets the confidence back.

  2. Slafkovsky and Rantanen are 2 different players. Your only comparing the Frame at this point than the actual players skillset. Slafkovsky’s Skill aint even close to Rantanen’s. Id take Rookie Rantanen over Slavkovsky any day of the week. Slafkovsky was just overhyped in the draft for his Olympic 7 Games Run. Besides his frame he dont have the best Shot, Hands, Speed, IQ in the entire Draft Class.

You can say you have to be patient. But some people comparing him to a Hughes, Thornton, slow starts. No. He’s a Pierre Engvall, Joel Armia at best. Ill say this again, we shouldve had Cooley. The type of Forward we can really use. An explosive Offensive Center/Winger. But we decided to go with a 1 hit wonder.

  3. These apologists are freaking hilarious. ‘Durrrrr* development means your 1st OA pick should play like a beer leaguer for 4 years! Guhhhh*’ pathetic fanboys. He is historically bad!

  4. Guhhhhhh Cooley is better now but in 5 years Slaf will be….. bigger! 🤣
    Cooley will develop too genius.
I’ve never in my life seen a pick go from completely terrible to super star. Maybe mediocre to quite good. This kid couldn’t play in Liiga.

  5. Not impatience, nor is it short sighted. They didn't draft the best available player both years. My issue is with the amateur scouting and brobov

  6. Hey Drew do you remember the Hockey Junkie talked about people not having patience with Slaf and he compared him to former 'big' players who came into the NHL as 18-19 year olds? Maybe they would be more understanding.

  7. Great video Dekes! Couldn’t agree with you more!

The people saying we should have took Cooley are the same people saying we don’t need anymore small players!😆

  8. I believe that Slaf vs Wright or Slaf vs Cooley are both false dichotomies, there is dozens of players that are outpacing Slafkovsky from his draft and neighboring drafts, first, second, third round picks … they are also irrelevant.

Why did the Montreal Canadiens pick him first overall in Montreal, knowing he’s going to have a long development ? Why did Montreal made him play in Montreal from day 1 no matter the results, again knowing he will have a long development ? Why didn’t Slafkovsky set a single foot in Laval yet ? Only the CH high level staff and the owners know the answer to these questions.

Part of the answer is probably that Montreal couldn’t trade the first overall pick of a draft happening in Montreal and had no certainty that other teams wouldn’t pick Slaf if they made a slight trade down.

Obviously his size coupled with his speed is an other factor he clearly answered needs the other candidates couldn’t, also a very dangerous word but that’s all the drafts are built upon “potential”.

I also wonder how heavy his play during the “Olympics” played in the balance.

My guess is simply that they are trying to make Slafkovsky adapt to N.A hockey and the NHL at the same time to potentially save in development time.

Could have they foreseen that Slaf would have one if not the roughest start of an NHL #1 pick in history ? Asking the question is answering it.

It’s way too easy to throw the word “bust” around.

  9. I am so glad he scored tonight and played so well with Suzuki caufeild . It shows that that second line was just bad overall not just slaf

  10. U know what’s surprising… with a crappy team performance like this… how is Molson allowing ticket prices to still be $600+ dollars….

  11. Slafkovsky is garbage , I’m sorry but whoever can’t see that lost all credibility and shouldn’t have hockey conversations , he skates and let’s himself glide like Guillaume Latendresse after a 2 mins shift, his shot is brutal, his stick handling resemble Donald brashear and has the hockey sense of John Scott on a good night .

When you compare players and all you can come up with is size 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ I’d take Logan Cooley with two broken legs over Slafkovsky. Slafkovsky is the worst 1st overall in the history of modern drafts.

Comparing Slafkovsky to rantanen 😂😂😂 a long term plan? You guys think gambling their 1st overall pick in 40 years on a maybe was a good idea?

Take your pink glasses off man , Slafkovsky is brutal , it’s actually embarrassing . Nobody in history has ever drafted a guy 1st overall as a project and no they won’t send him to Laval, think for a seconde , what if he went to Laval and could keep up? I think we all know what would happen

But that’s ok we’ll get to relive this whole embarrassment in two years when michkov drops 4 against the habs while reinbacher is getting 17 a season in Laval🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

  12. Relax? If you can’t see this guy is a bust by now then maybe hockey isn’t for you . When you say Slafkovsky has skills, exactly what skills are you talking about.

I’ll trust the numbers , here are brobov s players he drafted in the top 7 overall, Tomas hickey, lafreniere, kakko, Anderson , Slafkovsky and reinbacher 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ yes we should all relax , this guys are just pretending to be garbage🤦‍♂

  13. Cooley doesn't have to learn the North American ice surface/game like Slaf does.

Too many people are "have to win now", "all prospects should play like Gretz right out of the gate"

    Those aren't real fans
