  1. Johnny Hockey deserved this after turning his back on the flames. He is becoming lazy and unproductive in a losing environment.

  2. Go to Columbus to kill your Career. How many guys have floated in playing well, lose all confidence and be terrible, only to leave and find their game again.

  3. We've always had players who were purely in it for the money and that's far more important than winning. They'll take an extra 3-5% on their contract, which means more to the team as far as the cap goes than it does to the player, even if it means winning nothing. Sidney Crosby's 8

  4. Overreact much?

Oh look. A skilled player in a 10-game slump in the first year with a new coach. 20, 25 games in, this is a story. Right now? Nope.

And, by the way, the difference between the Gaudreau benching and the Miller benching is that Miller was benched in the second period, not the third. That’s the mark of an experienced coach—bench the player, let him stew in it for the rest of the period, then let him loose the next period. Gaudreau can’t show that he got the message until the next game; Miller got to show it the next period.

We’ll see how it goes. But my expectation is that Gaudreau gets hot for a few games and this goes away (until his next cold streak, when the bandwagon starts rolling again).
