Trade Mercer for a Duck
Guys where have you been?
Mercer hasnt been the same scoring wise since NJ aquired Timo and Lindy then broke up one of the most productive lines in hockey in Nico- Mercer- Tatar.
Now with the acquisition of Toffoli, Mercer finds himself shuffled even more.
Due to Mercer's diversity to excel in all situations, he gets shuffled about indiscriminately.
Moving a Lazar up over a Mercer is pure lunacy.
It is clear that Mercer excels with Nico and relegating him to a 3rd line or with linemates like a Haula, Lazar, or Palat (all non-20 scorers is simple purgatory.
Move Palat back where he belongs and move Mercer up and commit it him back being top 6 where he belongs.
Mercer has been streaky when it comes to his point production the first two seasons in the league. I'm not worried about his slow start yet either, Danny. If he has like 5 pts after 20 games in, THEN I'll start to buy into this conversation about him struggling. I feel like the fanbase is just pivoting concern from Timo (and he's fine now) to Palat and Mercer. They'll be fine with time as well.
