This really was a long time coming, but man it hurts now that it’s actually here. Maybe he’ll be back later this year, but it looks like he’s hanging his skates up for good. Thank you for everything you’ve done #19
man i've always said there are 3 retirements that will get to me, Backy, Ovi, and Oshie. This may not be a straight up retirement but…if I did not burst into tears when I heard the news.
As sad as it is, this will probably end up helping the Caps on the ice. Nicky just isn't the player he used to be, and he clearly had trouble keeping pace with the game this year. Now Connor McMichael can take over as the 3C who should be an upgrade at this point, and we have both the cap space and line spot to insert Max Pacioretty when he's healthy.
