“Miles Wood unleashed a celebration worthy of the moment.

On Tuesday night, midway through the second period at Ball Arena, with the Avalanche on a grueling seven-minute penalty kill, Wood broke free with the puck against New Jersey. Imagine his adrenaline. Wood played his first eight NHL seasons for the Devils before signing with Colorado this offseason.

He capitalized on the shorthanded chance with a slick breakaway wrister for a go-ahead goal at a critical moment. Wood responded with an epic fist pump before colliding with happy teammates. He later downplayed the significance with a big smile from the Avs dressing room.

“For me, it was just another game. Like I said before the pregame, the first shift might be a little weird, and it was,” Wood said. “But as soon as that passed, it was right back to work. I’m just happy to get the two points here and win.”

Wood agreed to a six-year Avs contract in July and turned in a season-best performance against New Jersey. His shorty was just the start. Wood created an even-strength scoring chance in the second when teammate Ross Colton cleaned up his shot attempt at the net front. Wood also leveraged his big frame (6-2, 195) with two hits.”

Take it from me, honey. Plastic is no substitute for a nice hunk of Wood!
