Honestly, I don’t care about the draft. It’s fickle. None of us realized Hughes was gonna be this guy and the guy many experts had as a top 3 prospect was gonna bust. Where I am surprised though, is why in the fuck did they trade Hronek? I said at the time the trade was made, that it was really weird for Detroit to sell Hronek, for picks. He’s in the perfect age range to play behind Seider for many years. All they needed to do was keep developing their plethora of LD prospects. Or even just sign good tier 2 top 4 defenders. Like a left handed Tanev type. Someone just to play solid hockey while Hronek and Seider do the heavy lifting.
Instead they traded Hronek for a guy they hope might do what Hronek does, but like 2-5 years from now? It’s just a baffling move made by a guy that is what many fans are, enamoured with shiny new toys at the expense of the great players they already have. That team could be so much better if they just stuck to the process and kept Hronek.

I think it’s easy to forget that Van also got a pick back in the Hronek trade. So while Van did give up a mid-2nd round pick they only ended up moving down 62 spots in the draft.
Also, ASP was definitely not on my wish list had Van kept that pick. Outside of Oliver Moore, none of the prospects available gave me FOMO.

Trade is looking A LOT like the Toews trade for 2nds that Burnaby Joe made a couple years back. Of course this one was a 1st and 2nd due to inflation.
